Phragmipedium Richteri Orchid

Most people know what an orchid looks like.  Most have seen the large Phalaenopsis or Moth Orchids in a wide variety of colors.  But, most people don't know just how varied orchids can be.  They come in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes.  Some are so small, you need a magnifying glass just to view them.  It wasn't until I went to my first orchid show that I really fell in love with orchids.  And, each show I went to after that just showed me that you will continuously be amazed at just how different they are from each other.  This past spring, I found out that Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, has one of the largest collections of rare and endangered orchids.  They are housed in the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse.  I have been there several times now and each time I go it's like a treasure hunt, finding orchids blooming that I have never seen before.  Today's photo is one of them.
