Glare

It never ceases to amaze me the expressions and emotions that I have captured of Onyo and Tango, my two favorite lions.  This one is of Onyo.

Bumblebee On Pink Sedum #2

You go to the zoo to take pictures of animals, but sometimes smaller things catch your eye.  Like this bumblebee on the pink sedum.

Okapi

The Okapi is certainly an unusual looking animal.  Most people when they first see it, think it's related to zebra because of the white stripes.  Then they are really surprised to find out it is the only animal related to the giraffe!  Sometimes called the Forest Giraffe, it lives in rainforests in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The Okapi is listed as Endangered and because it is so elusive, it's hard to tell how many are still in the wild.  They estimate it at 25,000.  They are becoming more popular in zoos as they work to save the Okapi from going extinct.

Annual Cicada #5

To me it wouldn't be summer without the sounds of Cicada. Some people find them annoying especially in those areas where the Periodical Cicadas come out in the millions.  But, I can't imagine going a summer without them and feel lucky when I can find one emerging.  Usually they don't come out until after dark and climb up a tree to emerge.  But sometimes you get lucky like this time where I found it in the final stages of emerging early in the morning.

Beard Of The Iris

This is another shot I took when we were using the studio lights.  After I took it, it made me think just how much it looked like a nudibranchs or sea slug or maybe some kind of caterpillar.  It does look like something is crawling along there.

Eye Of The Peacock #6

When my daughter was going to the School Of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis, one of the classes she had to take was a lighting class.  Her Dad has studio lights so he brought them over and on the weekends we would buy flowers from the florist and take pictures of them.  One time we decided to do something a little different and got some peacock feathers.  This is one of the macro shots that I took.

Tango #3  Black And White TOC
Tango is the brother of Onyo that you will see here. While I don't think he is as photogenic as Onyo, I still have been able to get some amazing shots of him.  Usually he has his tongue sticking out which I think gives him an almost puppy dog look.
